From the discovery of the wheel to processers and MP3 players to the latest technologies such as self-driving cars, countless technological innovations have shaped everyday life and will continue to do so in the future.

There are different types of technologies. As the name suggests, core technologies are the foundation of our industry. They have not only been tested theoretically and in the laboratory but have also been in use for years. For example, core technologies are combustion engines and transistors and the power grid. Basic technologies are of outstanding importance for industry and business. Ideally, new technology will emerge as the core technology at some point. Key Skills are the key to further development in a specific technology area. Key technologies are at the centre of scientific research. They are sufficiently studied to allow practical application, but not to the point where all potential applications can be fully realize. Examples of key technologies are bioinformatics, image recognition and robotics, and solar energy and hybrid technologies.

 

Rhythm technologies are not yet ready for use but are more than just visions of the future. They already have an applied application and can be further developed into key technologies. Stimulus technologies often involve very risky investments. Examples of beat-making technologies are neuroinformatics, genetic engineering, and nanotechnology. Emerging skills still in the research stage are refer to as future technologies.
